Turn off auto-download of WhatsApp
WhatsApp automatically downloads photos and videos every day, cluttering up your gallery. There's a setting you should know about to stop this.
How to do it?

Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.

Select the Data and storage option.

Go to the Automatic download section.

“When using mobile data” and “When connected to Wi-Fi” Turn off downloading of photos, videos, and documents from both these options.
With this setting, only the files you want to download will be available. My friend used this trick, and his phone's gallery is now completely clean!
Turn off media visibility.
Have you ever noticed that photos and videos sent from WhatsApp appear directly in your phone's gallery? This can lead to unnecessary files accumulating in the gallery. But there's a simple solution for this too.
How to do it?

Open WhatsApp and go to Settings > Go to Chats.

Find the Media Visibility option and turn it off.

If you want to do this for a specific chat or group, go to that chat, tap on the name, and select Media Visibility > No.
Stop photos from being saved to the gallery
Sometimes we download photos from WhatsApp, and they are automatically saved in the gallery. But you can change this setting too.
How to do it?

Open WhatsApp and go to Settings > Chats.

Turn off the Save to Photos option.

For a specific group or contact, go to that chat, tap on the name, and Save to Photos > Select Never.
Manage WhatsApp storage regularly
WhatsApp has a storage management feature that lets you see which groups or chats are taking up storage. Go to Settings > Storage & data > Manage storage . Here you'll find the option to delete large files and old messages. I do this every couple of months, and my phone always stays light.
